Asbestos Encapsulation Coating

SPECSHIELD®
Asbestos Encapsulation Coating

A water-based elastomeric acrylic coating designed to encapsulate, seal and stabilise asbestos surfaces, providing a flexible, waterproof and durable protective barrier for interior and exterior applications.

SpecShield® Asbestos Encapsulation Coating is a one-component, water-based elastomeric coating formulated with a UV cross-linking pure acrylic binder to safely encapsulate and seal asbestos materials that cannot be removed due to structural or environmental constraints. The coating forms a tough, flexible and continuous film that stabilises the substrate, binds loose fibres, and provides long-term protection against weathering and moisture ingress.

Features & Benefits

  • Encapsulates & Seals Asbestos Surfaces – Binds loose fibres and stabilises ageing asbestos materials.
  • Reinforces & Strengthens the Substrate – Forms a durable protective film over asbestos cement and sprayed finishes.
  • Elastic, Crack-Bridging Performance – Maintains encapsulation even where small cracks or movement occur (≤ ~1 mm).
  • Waterproof & Weather-Resistant Barrier – Protects against moisture ingress in interior and exterior conditions.
  • Highly Adherent, Water-Based System – Low odour, easy to use and suitable for sensitive environments.
  • Easy Application – Can be applied by roller or airless spray for efficient coverage and film build.
  • UV Cross-Linking Acrylic Technology – Supports long-term durability and stability of the coating film.

Intended Uses

SpecShield® Asbestos Encapsulation Coating is designed for safe encapsulation of asbestos-containing building materials where removal is impractical or undesirable, and a long-term protective sealing system is required.

Designed for use on suitably primed asbestos cement and asbestos-sprayed concrete surfaces, the coating offers excellent adhesion and flexibility. Its elastic properties ensure continued encapsulation performance even when minor substrate movement or hairline cracking (≤ ~1 mm) occurs. Applied in two coats to achieve approximately 0.5 mm film thickness, it delivers a secure and durable encapsulation solution for refurbishment and risk-management environments.

Typical applications include:

  • Asbestos cement sheets and panels
  • Asbestos-sprayed concrete and structural surfaces
  • Interior and exterior asbestos roof and wall elements (where correctly prepared and primed)
  • Stabilisation of ageing or weathered asbestos surfaces
  • Risk-reduction treatment for non-removable asbestos materials
