Specially selected reflective glass beads significantly enhance the visibility of road markings, making driving at night and in wet conditions safer and more comfortable. Most reflective glass beads used in road markings are made from recycled glass, including bottles and industrial waste glass. These tiny beads, often smaller than a grain of sand, are perfectly spherical to achieve retroreflection.
The size of the bead gradings should be selected according to the chosen marking and its applied thickness to ensure an embedment of 50 - 60%. Glass bead blends should have larger beads for initial retro-reflectivity and smaller beads for adequate distribution throughout the wearing life of the marking.
