General Purpose Holding Primer

Epoxy
Holding Primer

Epoxy Holding Primer is a premium two-component, solvent-based, amine-cured epoxy holding primer developed to provide temporary corrosion protection for blast-cleaned steel during fabrication, storage, transportation, and construction. Specifically formulated as a weldable prefabrication primer, it protects prepared steel surfaces while allowing welding operations to be carried out without removing the coating. The primer also provides effective cutback protection on external and internal pipe ends until welding has been completed and the final protective coating system is applied. Its excellent adhesion, rapid drying characteristics, and extended overcoating window make it an ideal solution for fabrication yards, structural steel manufacturers, shipbuilding, pipeline construction, and industrial maintenance projects.

Intended Uses

Epoxy Holding Primer has been developed to protect newly blast-cleaned steel from flash rusting and atmospheric corrosion before the application of a complete protective coating system. It is particularly suited to steel fabrication facilities where structural components, fabricated assemblies, tanks, pipework, and steel sections may remain exposed for extended periods before final painting. As a weldable prefabrication primer, it allows fabrication work to continue efficiently without compromising corrosion protection, making it an excellent choice for structural steel manufacturers, shipyards, pipeline contractors, mining infrastructure projects, and heavy engineering applications. It is also widely used to protect pipe ends after coating until welding and field joint repairs are completed.

Typical Applications:

  • Structural steel fabrication
  • Steel fabrication workshops
  • Pipe fabrication
  • Pipeline construction
