AEROCOAT® Stainless Steel

A one pack stainless steel flake pigmented aerosol coating.
INTENDED USES
AEROCOAT® Stainless Steel coating is resistant to corrosion conditions due to the high performance AISI 316L Alloy Flake pigments. AEROCOAT® Stainless Steel can be used in highly corrosive environments and maintain bright lustre after years of exposure. AEROCOAT® Stainless Steel resists deterioration from staining, tarnishing, oxidation or chemical attack.
AEROCOAT® Stainless Steel is forms a barrier which reflects sunlight away from the paint film and as a result, UV degradation is eliminated and the film integrity is maintained. Weathering can improve the colour and metallic brightness of the coating. AEROCOAT® Stainless Steel will resist the accumulation of dirt due to smoothness and hardness.
AEROCOAT® Stainless Steel acts as an effective moisture barrier preventing swelling and deterioration of the protective film. AEROCOAT® Stainless Steel is hard, durable and abrasion resistant. The exceptional resistance permits its use in industrial flooring applications and other areas where mechanical abrasion is a maintenance problem. AEROCOAT® Stainless Steel contains Iron, Nickel and Chromium, which are inert to chemical attack.
When applied correctly the AEROCOAT® Stainless Steel is resistant to acids, alkalis and chemicals. Suitable for technical applications e.g. Pipes, steel pipe structures, automotive/trailer parts, bicycles and motorcycles, automobile rims, wrought iron as well as for repairing stainless steel and embellishing decorative objects and DIY.

How it Works:
AEROCOAT® Stainless Steel uses 316 Stainless Steel flakes which contain chromium which forms a passive film of chromium oxide, which prevents further surface corrosion by blocking oxygen diffusion to the steel surface, this is called the “Barrier Effect” and blocks corrosion from spreading into the metal’s internal structure, the “Inhibitor Effect”.
The film is impervious to water and air, protecting the metal beneath, and this film quickly reforms when the metal surface is scratched. This phenomenon is called a “Passivation Effect”, passivation occurs only if the proportion of chromium is high enough and oxygen is present.
The layer of Chromium Oxide that is formed is too thin to be visible, so the coating will remain lustrous and smooth. AEROCOAT® Stainless Steel insulates itself from the substrate & presents an extremely durable surface to the exterior.
Diagram

Barrier

Elongated corrosion protection due to overlapping of the flakes, additional barrier effect, caused by the plate-like shape of the stainless steel flakes.
Inhibitor

Formation of Chromium Oxide reduces the corrosive agents that reach the steel surface.
Passivation

The coating insulates its self from the substrate and quickly reforms when the film is damaged.
